Here’s what we got for your Sunday FOOD service (not to be mixed up with any religious affiliation… even though some of you come religiously ^_^) tomorrow from 12-3p:
Meat: KALBI CHIM (braised Korean short-ribs) and in the burrito you’ll get KIMCHI FRIED RICE inside w/ the KALBI CHIM instead of just plain ol’ (and yet tasty) sushi rice
Veggie-licious entree: stir-fried and a delish-ified (yeah, you could get a huge score if you used that word in a game of Scrabble) KIMCHI + KING OYSTER MUSHROOMS
All dishes served w/ a side of LOVE… and JAP CHAE (Korean glass noodles)
Don’t forget that we’ve upped the ante on the banh mi/sandwiches w/ the homemade sweetly creamy french-like mayo (and let me tell you NOW it makes a HUGE difference… every bite was like heaven: so light and fluffy (ummmm YEAH, don’t forget we like to eat our own food too).
If you’re going to come, but don’t know when… you can always call or email your order ahead of time and we’ll hold it for ya.
What better way to celebrate not being shut down by the man than producing a craptacular slideshow in Windows Movie Maker with some barely visible quality faded film effects (hey, you can get all the clear versions of the pics on the Facebook Fan Page), and accompanied with the musical stylings of the guiltiest pleasure band known to mankind… AIR SUPPLY!!!
Btw, I didn’t realize how long this video was until now. Feel free to fast forward to the “good parts” that you like. This is basically just an amalgamation of pics from the last 5 weeks. Not much work was put into this other than selecting the pics, the song and hitting “AUTO MOVIE” or something like that. So, if you dun like it… dun worry, it s’alright!
If you don’t know me that well, know THIS: I’m a ROCK BAND FIEND! Not that I’m any good, but I can play for about 4-5 hours straight. But you know what I ALWAYS tell people, the minute they make SOFT ROCK BAND…oh man, it is OVER!!! ^^
WOW - It’s late, many of my friends are celebrating a friend’s screening of her AFI thesis film (CONGRATS NADINE), I’m still up and we finished serving almost 10 hours ago from the time of this post. Why is this taking so long? Well, I guess my lazy Sunday started AFTER service.
I won’t really get into it too much since I just posted this video above… SO I bet you’re wondering why? And the answer is kind of the same of why we started STARRY KITCHEN… “WHY NOT?”
Quick shout outs to a couple of the first timers that came out: Ian, Quynn, Joyce, Jeff, Hai & Joeann. All friends, and all people that couldn’t resist my annoyingly persistent FB News Feed posts (thanks FB!). There are some pics we’re going to put up on the Facebook Fan Page that Hai and Joeann took today, and we’d like to thank them for that. We’d like to thank Dan and Yuh for helping and guarding the “GQ Donation Box.” That is quite a tremendous fete, and you did it with such ease and grace that we might be calling you back in for a second interview.
Assuming you might have been slightly enthralled, appalled or strangely fascinated by the video above, I’ll leave you with a picture of today’s dish: Korean kalbi chim w/ a little bit of Chinese PIZZAZZ. Enjoy!
HAPPY FRIDAY! Oh man- it’s been a crazy week, and we’re so sorry we haven’t been able to update the blog very regularly this week. Are you enjoying the pics? Well, we’re enjoying the food in the pics we take.
You might look at all these pics and wonder, “What is all this stuff, and why are you teasing me with all these culinary delights?” The quick answer to the last half of that question is “because we can CHUCK… because we can!”
The answer to the first part is that the soupy stuff you’re seeing is also a Vietnamese regular, bo kho! It’s basically a Vietnamese beef stew made with a lot of spices that give it that thick red tint, and it’s oh so delish with the beef tenderly stewed with carrots and potatoes in this pic. And it’s most commonly eaten with french bread dipped into the soup. I like to add a tad bit of tobasco (YUP) to the soup to add a nice little kick, and a ton of basil to balance the flavors. THere’s also a chinese cilantro chicken fried dumpling in those pics too!
And of course, the rest of the pics are from our Wed nite service where we served THIT KHO. Me thinks we have this dish down. Especially with that hard boiled and thit kho flavored egg…YUUUUUMMY
SUNDAY SERVICE UPDATE
KALBI CHIM
“What is THAT?” you might also ask (what’s with all the questions anyway? be resourceful… you have the internet… it’s YOURS!) - well, the QUICK answer to that is braised Korean Beef short-ribs. We made these once before, and it’s time to bring it back out and refine the flavors of this dish to make it not only better… but UNSTOPPABLE! ^^
So come out this Sunday, from 12 - 3p. And if you don’t know where we’re at, check out our Yelp review HERE for more info.
Have you ever seen the White Stripes video for the song, ‘Fell in Love with a Girl’? No or you don’t remember… man, this is friggin’ sweet. No relation to anything here. It’s just cool. Have a great weekend!
HERE IT IS: Chinese/Korean Kalbi Chim! HOORAY. What is that exactly you might ask? It’s basically braised Korean short-ribs with a little Chinese PIZZAZZ, and it’s so juicy, moist and flavorful that we know you guys are going to be floored when you try this. Join the “FLAVOR-LUTION!!!” (that sounds better than it looks written out, I think I might just stick with “flavor enlightenment” until then ^_^). As one person we sneak peaked this for mentioned, “the flavor is sophisticated,” but shoot… I just think it’s F’ING GOOD which is all that matters!
And I know I already posted this pic before, but I thought it might be helpful to TELL you what it is and then for you to see it! And to also get your mouthwatering to make the decision easy on whether or not to show up. That decision SHOULD be, and I’d like to pull a quote from…ummm, myself of course:
“…run, don’t walk and forget about the well-being of others when trying to get there! You’ll thank me later! (unless you do something horrible which I can’t take responsibility for… I mean, GROW UP MAN!)”
Coincidentally, we also just served this very same dish at a party tonight, and while I thought some of the “uninitiated” might have been too scared to eat it (I mean tasty braised beef ribs could be considered PRETTY SCARY looking)… when we got back, it was ALL GONE! SHIIIIIT! I guess “they” (i.e. the guests… not like aliens or Care Bears) thought it was good too.
Actually, we just gained some new fans tonight (at least that’s what they told me when they were sober) so a shout out goes to Dave, Mike, Yahra, Kristi and “BOO!” That last one actually isn’t a joke, her real name is Barbara, but her friend Kristi calls her “Boo.” I thought it might be like that Usher and Alicia Keyes song “My Boo.” What, you’ve never heard this song before. SHOOT! Well, here you go (with lyrics too so you can sing LOUD and sing it PROUD!):
So service is still 12p - 3p. If you need info, click HERE for the flyer. This one is AGAIN in limited quantity so we suggest you show up early or look like a SUCKA (and I AM talking about you CHUCK NORRIS! mwahahahahaha)
On a final note, Facebook JUST opened up the ability to have a vanity URL or username for your Facebook pages. If you have Facebook and haven’t done so, go do it because it’s fun. I got one for my personal one already and it’s http://facebook.com/ntran1. Put it in and BAM, there I am. We can’t get one for Starry Kitchen yet until we get over 1000 fans, but you can click the Facebook Fan Page link in the right column become a fan if you aren’t already.
But don’t fight over it like these stupid suckas below. Click the pic if you want more info from Digg. It’s pretty HILARIOUS! Now all they need are some STARRY KITCHEN branded taco, burrito or sandwich goodness to cure what ails them. And in this case, blatantly stealing their friend’s opportunity for a personal username in Facebook IS what ails them. FYI-Facebook does not allow changes and you’re stuck with that username FOREVER. For some, I’m sure that’s “almost” as bad as Cancer, HIV or the Bubonic Plague… but NOOOOOT quite (but still… classically HILARIOUS).
Enjoy and we’ll see you tomorrow… or NOT if you’re a FLAKE and you don’t like good food! Because there is, “No food for flakes!” (I’m going to get a bumper sticker that says that one day and take a picture of it with a headshot of our biggest flake… tee hee hee)
