If you wanna quick no BS summary of what’s going on this week (‘cause you have a short attention span ‘cause you wanna watch the next-best-greatest cat whistling dixie youtube video like me!):

• LAST WEEK for SPICY KOREAN BLACK PORK BELLY … or IS IT?!?! (I know, “clever!”)
• You can VOTE for what the next dish is, but you gots to come in and figures it out
• … and we love you very much (even if you have a lil mornin’ breath, we don’t mind.. and here’s some chewing gum from us just because! ^_^)

Until then, just a piece of advice we learned from the LA Street Food Fest: becareful when you’re around me in my banana suit!! If I start getting worked up, I might just kick you in the BALLS fer fun like the Boba Man from The Mighty Boba Truck (we <3 those guys ^_^)

Unfortunately, not much time to blogsies today. Being a restaurateur is CRAZY busy sometimes (and I cannot WAIT to tell all 6-7 of you of the ups+downs of this biz ESPECIALLY where I completely f’ed up too.. hopefully sooner rather than later. It ain’t all pretty, lemme tell ya!)

Dont forget that this is the REAL last week (as opposed to last week’s FAKE “last week” LOL) for the CHINESE HOISIN HAMBURGER + Korean Glass Noodles.

And don’t forget to get yer tickets to the LA STREET FOOD FEST TOO! We’re gonna make our “triumphant” return, and we have something VERY special planned for this one (and no it doesn’t have anything to do with my banana suit and balls.. I think!)

So how can I have a NEW WAVE WEDNESDAY (for almost 8 months folks… 8 MONTHS… YOWZA!!!) without… DAVID BOWIE! AhhhhHHHhhhhHHHHHhhH…

Thankfully, today that has been rectified. New Wave Crisis.. AVERTED! (phew!)

Now that is outta the way, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to get my some YOUNG BANANA + TAPIOCA in CARAMEL COCONUT MILK. Why am I so brazenly plugging that dish (outside of the consistent theme of RESTAURANT WEEK going on right now), it’s because it’s a WARM dessert AND… I haven’t even had any this week. I’ve given it to all you chockos to make sure you can enjoy, but today’s my day… I’m gonna git me some ‘cause this weather “doth sucketh balls!” (you can quote me on that , especially if I run for City Janitor or something.

WARNING… WARNING.. OBLIGATORY SK/CASA RESTAURANT WEEK PLUG COMING… NOW!!

So what’s it to ya, we’re doin’ this thing we wants you to know about it. Hey, at CASA, that Braised Beef Short Ribs Birria dish is normally $19 BY ITSELF… and you can get it in what is essentially a 4 COURSE meal… Holy Crap SON, you betta go get yo’self some now before RESTAURANT WEEK (as of this mention, I have earned myself an imaginary $.30… SCORE!) ends…. Ooooooo the madness!

And oh yeah, with our menu (which we will carry into Din Dins this Thurs+Friday night), most of this stuff ain’t on the normal lunch menu (that’s RIGHT Chuck-Y Norris… no time for ChuckY-foolery today ‘cause the TAIWANESE FRIED PORK CHOP below is JUST on the RESTAURANT WEEK menu!). Again, my suggestion, “GET IT & SPLIT IT!” (but get another a la carte side because it might ALMOST be enough)

Happy Post-LA STREET FOOD FEST ya’ll!

And before we get into the few (of a LOT) of pictorial tomfoolery from the event, let’s just jump into the going-ons of this week:

Two INCREDIBLY beloved dishes are leaving us this week (to return again… ummm.. whenever!):

• SPICY “CRACK” CRAB CAKES
• Japanese Garlic Noodles

For those that are new (all 6 of you that we met at the Rose Bowl this weekend that weren’t completely put off by our constant “balls” jokes LOL), we rotate the menu every WEEK! Why? Because we can! ^_^ (and that’s just our concept… but that’s a more boring and less bold answer than the former :D)

And we’re changing this one up by adding minced kimchi + gochujang (Korean sweet chili paste) on topsies:

Rather than write more boring words and lingo (outside of the fact that they created a WHOLE new category just for us: BEST ORIGINAL SHOWMANSHIP), here are just a FEW of the pictures. Today many of you will want to kick me in the “ball sack” ‘cause it’s the LAST WEEK for the CRISPY TOFU BALLS! (damn, where’s my junior high school football cup when I need it, huh?!?!)

I know… I KNOW!!! So many of you love ‘em (while my staff kinda hates me everytime I bring these suckas back… they’re a LOT of work!!) If you didn’t know, last week was SUPPOSED to their final hurray for the month, but we extended the menu one more week just so you could get your crack-tacular fix for “the balls”.. but now that’s about to end (so get ‘em now foo’s!)

If it makes anyone feel a LIL bit better, we’re going a LOT more South-East Asian this week! The MALAYSIAN COCONUT PINEAPPLE CHICKEN makes it’s tasty (and SPICY ^_^) come back after almost 7 months (kinda like the last time we served the CRISPY TOFU BALLS too… I know… I’m just rubbing “salt into the wound” on the tofu balls subject!). Not only that but…

The Singaporean Curry Noodles are finally back too (these are also quite spicy-licious! ;D)

(does that South-East Asian themed news help balance out the CRISPY TOFU BALLS leaving?? I guess if you’re vegetarian that answer would be “You’re a stupid head Nguyen Tran!” and to that I might run away and shake my head in agreement while I’m running away and covering my ‘nads in fear of your veggie-rage ^_^)

While you’re in a tizzy over all the South-East Asian deliciousness (and some “trivial” bad news about some pesky green balls aleavin’), don’t forget to have perspective.. and remember that in times of war, cats are not only our friends but pave the path of righteousness for their trusted companions and exhibit extreme bad ass-itude in the heat of battle (and I would like to think the same fortimes where they’re just “in heat” too… but me thinks this is not such interchangeable advice LOL) And if none of that makes sense to you, and you DEMAND that we cater to your short-attention span theater cravings while educating you on the wisest wisdom any wiseman would want you to have, well here ya go! ;)

Before we get to this picture mumbo-jumbo above: today’s the LAST full lunch day at SK AND the last Din-Dins night for the week. Looks like we’re gonna do use tomorrah to clean house, and we’re gonna try a “Pick-up-and-go” idea for those that wanna pop by and still want/need some grub before the July 4th holiday.

So that does mean… TODAY’S the last official day for the CHINESE HOISIN HAMBURGER & Korean Glass Noodles (Japchae) too. I know… this surprise is “nads kickin’ worthy!!”

I know, that sucks for some of you (all two of you) planning on coming in tomorrow. NOoooOOOooOOO. You know what I do when I get all depressed, mad and getting the itch to kick someone in the nads… why I pop in some CUTTING CREW of course!

DUDES, this was SO much fun last year and probably THE most influential event in the short history of SK. There’s gonna be so much food, lots of crazy culinary talent (not just trucks anymore foo’s) and they limited it to three different sessions so it should be a WHOLE lot LESS crazy. So come out, enjoy, and see a possibly new SET of outfits (what? we kinda like to have fun at SK… and is that so WRONG?!?!)

On the eve of our first LARGE SCALE food fest (aka LA STREET FOOD FEST / @lafoodfest), I can’t help but take a quick moment to reflect after preparing 3,000+ of our (currently) most coveted/popular dish- the Crispy Tofu Balls (and that ain’t no joke either, they are READY!!!)

If we NEVER make it farther than we already have now, I can safely say we are VERY fortunate to have made so many new good foodie friends and fans in the process. Why am I bringing this up now? Look at the pics above, we got these guys (especially Matt Kim who you’ll notice in EVERY PICTURE) to help us out ALL week for prep AND during the fest tomorrow at the Rose Bowl. It’s NOT easy and we wouldn’t have been able to do this without these guys… and we’re really lucky to have all these guys (including Felicia who isn’t in any of these pics) as our new found friends in this scary world of… FOOD SERVICE! ^_^

Thanks to Julian, Christine, Matt, Remil (Mr. SK Mayor), Danny, Dan, Caleb, Felicia, Misty and Justin for all your help… (I’m hoping this post gets to them so they don’t flake on us tomorrow for our big day! LOL)

And if anything, at least we got THIS out of it (total AWESOMENESS = Shaved Snow from CLASS 302 in Rowland Heights) ^_^

• We are serving DIN DINS tonight, and if you didn’t know the LEMONGRASS TOFU is on the dinner menu and tonight is the LAST NIGHT for it before it officially goes away for a lil bit

• Lastly, we’re partnering up with the AWESOME Grand Performances gang next Saturday, 7/31 for a RESERVED SEAT (it’s usually first come, first.. umm seated) + Dinner for 2 giveaway for the PACHA MASSIVE & NONSTOP BHANGRA concert!
