Salutations friend(s),
HOLY CRAP… 7 weeks… 7 WEEKS!  I don’t know when I’m supposed to stop counting, but I’m not stopping yet.  And it looks like a lot of you are getting used to the rotating menu now too.  I know, I know.. sounds different, absurd and ludicrous even… but you aren’t bored, and neither are we?!?! (YIPPEE!)

(fyi- the pic above only serves to try to whet your appetite… did it work??)
If you weren’t with us at the end of last week, to recap the torrid and “intense” (intense in the sense of people begging me not to take either item off the menu yet!) PORK vs TOFU battle, BOTH won because we’ve decided to keep both for (at least) one more week.  But alas, we must keep to our commitment to rotate (i.e. we still feel like it), but let’s start with what many (all 7 readers = 1 reader for every week) know already:
NEW/ROTATING IN:

SK SPICY CRAB CAKE 
We’ve gotten a LOT of requests at SK for something spicy, so here ya go… SUCKAS! :)  Instead of using the normal celery that many use to add a lil *crunch* to these “tasty” cakes, we’ve added in jalapenos AND left the seeds in ‘em too.  This is NOT for the faint of heart.  It’s NOT the spiciest creation ever, but it’s definitely a couple of notches out of a spice-averse (aka “wussy”) tolerance. You’ve been warned (and watch, I know I’m going to get comments to make it spicier too LOL)
Last note on these (cause I couldn’t fit them in the menu above): we’ve used imitation crab meat, but THIS imitation is unlike any other I’ve personally had.  It’s actually FLAKY and not the normal tube of imitation-ness that we’re accustomed to.  In other words, “It’s pretty darn good pardner! GIDDYUP!”

SO LONG/FAREWELL/IT’S TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE/…ROTATING OUT!

TAIWANESE FRIED PORK CHOP 
I’ll admit, I didn’t know these would catch the momentum that it did so quickly, but we’re glad (cause they ARE tasty). We’ve only tested this ONCE out of our “apartment” and even then it went so fast we couldn’t even try them ourselves!
Will these come back? DARN TOOTIN’ they will.  As we go along, we’ll probably start rotating things back-in in the near future… but I’d like to think the CHINESE HOISIN HAMBURGER is startin’ to pick up steam now too and can fill that savory + comforting void that will be left by our favorite Taiwanese friend! (but you still have one more week)

WHAT ABOUT THE SIDES?
No worries on that front, they’re all staying the same.  The KN’s been a lil sick (she’s ducking out today too), so we can’t confidently change anything without our Cap’n driving the ship.  So JAPCHAE and COCONUT RICE are staying for another week! :)
And on that note, I gotta get ready to work (hope people show up today!)  For some reason, the power of AIR SUPPLY compels me to… “supply” you with some saccharine guilty-pleasure soft-rock goodness! And actually my favorite AIR SUPPLY song… what? YES, I like AIR SUPPLY… me and the KN even saw them in concert one time for fun… oh man, get over it and… man, I lost another reader… oh well.  I’d like to think EVEN THE NIGHTS ARE BETTER w/o you Mr. Runaway Reader (even though I actually miss you already ;p):

Hey gang,

HAPPY MONDAY (barf!)  Welcome back to the grind. For those of us that don’t have Facebook, twitter or the entire internet blocked, here’s a little tidbit from yesterday.  If you can’t read the previous blog posts because your internet impaired, yesterday we went ALL NEW which we haven’t done in a L-O-N-G time.  We served:

  • VIETNAMESE BRAISED STAR ANISE PORK (‘da meat)
  • HONEY PANKO CRUSTED CRISPY TOFU BALLS (‘da m’fing good veggie)
  • PINEAPPLE FRIED RICE (side)

Pics are above for those that didn’t make it, and for those that want to cause further frustration to themselves because they can’t have it because:

  1. We rotate our menu and who knows when we’ll bring any of these 3 items back
  2. You work in an area where Gruel is the special of the day and only option (sorry suckas)
  3. You’re a lurker and STILL haven’t stopped by (s’alright, more for us until you show up ^_^)

Btw, did anyone notice that we have 15 Five-star reviews on Yelp now!!! How friggin’ sweet is that.  Damnit we’re spoiled now.  The minute we drop from anything but a Five-star rating, we’ll be bummed but that’s life I guess!

Alrighty, enough of those shenanigans (which my spell checker ACTUALLY knows how to spell correctly… genius!)  We have to think about what we’re going to serve Wednesday.  The KITCHEN NINJA feels like trying some more new stuff, so more than likely Weds will be all new again.  HOORAY!

And on the topic of new and a rotating menu, after much thought and deliberation with in the inner circle of SK (me and my wife that is), we’re going to stick with this as we grow.  I bring this up because we ARE considering growth already.  Don’t want to go “on the record” yet, but we’re vetting out an opportunity as we speak and one of the main questions have been “do we keep surprising people” or “do we sell out and be like everyone else?”  I say F’ that, we’re sticking to our guns and surprising people.  I’m thinking the routine will change from what dish is your fave to these people will just trust us and take what we dish out.  Or as one of my New Yorker friends put it, the Soup Nazi did just fine not telling anyone what he was serving… why can’t we?

Is it THAT revolutionary to rotate the menu??  NAW!  But for this area… ummm… YEAH!
As far as the rotation rules, we have come up with that we will keep ALL DISHES WILL STAY AT LEAST 2 WEEKS.  So don’t fret, we won’t rotate TOO often if you find something you love.  And once we figure out what people love the most… some MIGHT become more available than others. :)
So, we’ll make this short, but a quick re-cap of what’s new and what’s gone:

Korean Short-Ribs
Crispy Tofu Balls (I know, I know you guys like this… soon… soon!)
Pineapple Fried Rice
Curry Fried Rice (from week 1)
Korean Glass Noodles (Japchae)
NEW
Japanese Meatball (aka Hamburger) Curry (uh huuuuh… CUUUUURRRY!)  
A short quote from a description of these from our former Underground mailing list: “As you get to know us, you’ll find that we love many a thing… and that includes honey panko and eggs.  And this patty’s got plenty of those to give it a mouth-watering flavor that will send you home in a euphoric state, kick up your feet, and find you some FLAVOR-OF-LOVE on tv cause that sh-t’s hilarious.”

Stir-Fried Kimchi + King Oyster Mushrooms 
And another short quote on these badboys: “Hmmm… what’s the best way to describe this in as few words or sounds as possible… (KA-BOOOOM) <- that being an explosion of flavor and texture in your mouth of course!  It’s a tasty veg especially w/ King Oyster Mushrooms giving it a high-class texture of Abalone (that’s an expensive sea food appreciated by Asians between you and me) but at a fraction of the price, oh BOY!”

Sliced Jalapenos! 
Many of you asked, so now you shall receive. If you want them, just ask!  We offer than now for people that are like me because your food has to “hurt SO good!”

Chiles en Escaveche 
Our Sous Chef Juvencio thought this would be a good addition and option for customers… so we offer it starting TODAY!  Let us know how you like ‘em, they’re PURDY tasty! :)  Here’s even a picture for you ‘cause we loves ya so much:
