Starry Kitchen

Hey buckaroos,

WELCOME TO THE WEDNESDAY NIGHT CRUNCH-TACULAR

So today (6-9p) is a special crunchy treat for everyone!  I would say this could be to celebrate our now EIGHTEEN 5-star Yelp Reviews (which is awesome)... but naw!  It’s because this is what we came up with, and it really is too much fun for us ^_^

The Metro:
Before I jump into it, really quick note.  If you DIDN’T know, we’re actually REALLY close to the North Hollywood Metro stop (5-10 min walk). Click this link (because Tumblr’s not liking me trying to embed the map) for walking directions from the station if you’re planning on being a little green and coming by Metro: http://bit.ly/zqxwn

What we’re serving up tonight:

In the Meat corner: VIETNAMESE BAKED GROUND GARLIC PORK (aka “nem nuong”) w/ EACH dish served with crispy fried egg roll wrapper in every bite.  Everything is also served w/ what we like to call our YUM YUM SK sauce that is traditionally served w/ Nem Nuong, and is painstakingly made up of slowly cooked glutinous rice, ground chicken and all sorts of Vietnamese flavors but so DARN GOOD with this.  I don’t even know how to describe it anymore, but the best way I can is… “Drool” (that’s for you Joe and Natasha ^_^)

In the Veggie/KosherCRISPY KIMCHI RICE PATTIES (or as I like to call it, one of our our new “game changer” veggie dishes because it’s so crisp-ity crunch-ity that you don’t need meat!!!)

The Side: ALL dishes served with I THINK JAPANESE GARLIC NOODLES which are oh so garlicky + delicious. DOH, can’t find my pic. Oh well, you’re just going to have to believe me on this one.  If you like garlic, Parmesan cheese and noodles… you’ll DEVOUR this.  If this changes, I’ll update on Facebook/twitter.

And there you have it.  Tonight’s going to be a tasty and fun night, ‘cause this sh-t is GOOD! ^_^  Hope to see you guys out, and as always LIMITED quantity (especially with our “game changer” ^_^).

If you think you’re going to show up later (closer to 8p or so), you can email, Facebook or Twitter your order BEFORE 6p (I can still operate on the buddy system right now if you wouldn’t believe it), and we’ll make sure to hold your food.  After 6p, I just get crazed and will try to check everything as much as possible, but no guarantees unless you get a direct response from me.  Thanks!

Xoxo,

TEAM SK

It’s our official Transformers Father’s Day Flyer! YEE HAW (and yes, we do plan on watching Transfomers 2 ^^)

Come out this Sunday (June 21st) from 12p - 3p if you can. This dish is going to be a real treat for you that you’ll want to tweet tweet TWEET about it all day (okay, I’m a NERD!!!)

In the mean time, do you want to be teased YET AGAIN with another dish we’re eating. The Kitchen Ninja just made these chicken wings covered with a gingerly-garlic glaze… oh man, these are TASTY!

From Blog PicsIf you’re asking WHY do we tease you like this? Outside of letting you see what Thi’s creativity, it could be what we eventually evolve to. But FIRST, we ask again:

Do you think we should get into the taco truck “rat race” of Los Angeles???

BREAKING NEWS: Next week we are VEGETARIAN-friendly! WOO HOO

This image is just a tidbit, a morsel if you will, of additional info. If you can’t tell, they’re deep fried chunks of silky smooth tofu. It’s so silky smooth I wish I could make like pajamas outta this stuff… it ‘so nice! I love me some silky tofu!

This isn’t even why it’s veggie friendly, but rest assured that “rabbit food” ain’t the solution either. I promise- my old friend in college was a Vegan… so we knows a thing or two about veggie AND vegan friendly! And hey, we’re kinda no body right now so we at Starry Kitchen gotta shoot for the stars (“WHOOOOOSH”)

So, this next time out it’s going to be Japanese and Vegetarian.

In the mean time, don’t forget to become a Facebook Fan (‘Starry Kitchen’), follow us on Twitter (@starrykitchen) and check out our blog often. If you’re on tumblr, please follow us there too. And if you don’t know what tumblr is, check it out at tumblr.com. It’s a pretty sweet blog interface, very user-friendly and tumble-riffic!

And since I’m just playing with tumblr to understand it all, I’m going to play with this “Let people answer this” feature. And please do answer.

Oh me…oh MY… And HOLY CRAP was tonight FRIGGIN’ busy YA’LL. Who woulda thunk it??? I mean- would people…could people… SHOULD people come find us in an extra secluded, outta the way, “underground” and enclosed apartment complex where some of the neighbors STILL don’t know we do this (seriously, how do people not know still… do they think that incredibly delictable scent of Pan-Asian spices is coming from JUST anywhere?!?!) to find some yummy-riffic Pan-Asian Mexi-mix concoctions that were merely an idea… a conversation… a dream… and now closer to reality than anything else? My answer to that incredibly long and nearly incoherent question would be:

“I think I love you (STARRY KITCHEN)… so what am I so afraid of (not STARRY KITCHEN)… I’m afraid that I’m not sure of (like showing up and all the food’s sold out)… a love there is no cure for (until you find STARRY KITCHEN!)”

for the pop-culture dotards (‘cause the word “retard” is frowned upon in some circles.. but it’s appropriate when someone you know is acting like a total DUMMY and then it’s appropriate to call that NO TALENT ASS CLOWN a “retard”… or “Michael Bolton”… whatever works, right?!?!?) here’s the clip from the PATRIDGE FAMILY where these lyrics come from

TWITTER!!!

So what was the deal today? Outside of people just gettin’ themselves some STARRY KITCHEN kalbi lovin’, we also got some Twitter user traffic too! Which is kinda sorta AWESOME-TASTIC FOO’S! I have to say, I was happily surprised, and impressed that maybe… just MAYBE this stuff is workin’! I mean, we only have like 70+ twitter followers (feel free to refer us ^_^) and now 230+ Facebook friends, so we not big time yet. But you know what Chuck? “What Nguyen?” I’m glad you asked Chuck Norris, Texas Ranger!

As we continue to evolve and grow this, we don’t want to lose the excitement and challenge of pleasing new people with our concoctions… and pleasing old fans with new dishes too. As I always tell people (you listenin’ Chuck), you HAFTA eat… why not enjoy it? And if we have something to offer to make people happy, is it so wrong that we want to continue making people HAPPY! I mean, think of the children (and your stomachs too!)

WHEW, I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve put some useless commentary on a page for me to showoff to friend’s that don’t care and act like I’m reading at their place so they can “accidentally” stumble upon my seemingly clever writing and completely un-funny, but somewhat lyrical poetry… that is our blog. ^^

Thanks to everyone that showed up including (here’s another Romper Room like shoutout): Amy, Cliff, Art, Linda, Art+Linda’s daughter (sorry, forgot your name… I’ll remember NEXT TIME), Heather and Chris. We really appreciate you guys coming out and giving us a try… oh yeah, and your $5 per plate donation too. That ain’t too shabby.

SUNDAY!!!… we don’t know what we’re serving! But that’s no different from when we DID know what we were serving and we chose not to tell you until the day of. Remember those days (two months ago?!?!). We’re not asking a lot, but we’re asking that you trust us and we’ll let you know when we make our decision. Until then- Sunday is ON from 12-3p. Quantity is going to be limited, so come early and take it to go… we don’t care… as long as you like it!

Until then, today I’d like to share with you the opening animated sequence/song of one of my fav F’ED UP animes of all time: NEON GENESIS EVANGELION. Just trust me when I say this show is MESSED UP, but is an incredible piece of anime history too. It completely took Japan by storm back in the late ’90s… and guess WHAT? It’s come back in the form of a total overhaul, re-animated and re-told set of movies of which the second is out NOW. I seem to remember reading somewhere it’s doing on par or similar numbers as TRANSFORMERS 2: Revenge of Michael Bay on my eye-balls. But anyway, it’s a catchy theme song, and a great show to look into. A classic big-robot anime with a LOT more story than you would ever think you could handle in one show (but only in the last half of the series for some reason). TOODLES:

This above, my friends, is a baked Vietnamese catfish (ca nuong). This is an incredible Vietnamese delicacy that you would enjoy with others (but you wouldn’t want to after you try it) while wrapping chunks of moist, flavorful and incredible catfish with the freshest of vegetables (cilantro, scallions and mint leaves) and vermicelli all in deliciously moist rice paper. Then you carefully dip it in the most savory VN fish sauce before you slowly consume it enjoying every morsel with each bite better than before. Once you’ve had this dish, you’ll be whisked away to far away lands beyond your imagination with leprechauns, unicorns, squirrels who serve you bite sized belgian chocolates at your beck and call, and plenty of other imaginary friends and animals that are “obviously” synonymous with Vietnamese food!

…

of which we’re not serving Wed night. Sorry! But since I have your attention:

Wednesday Night Service (June 17th)

Again, Wed night service is ON! “What is it you’re serving?” my one friend in the UK would probably ask (btw, there is someone consistently reading this from the UK… but WHO???). For all of you that perused the previous post, I did mention it would be Vietnamized-American dish (I also referred to that “no talent ass clown” Michael Bolton in the same post LOL) and it is:

Vietnamese(-ized) Hamburger w/ a sesame soy dressing

And of course still served as a taco, burrito or sandwich! We’ve added some special additions to this dish including eggs on top (come try the burrito version, we have a special egg SURPRISE we’re trying with that… oh YES!) and delciously pickled julienned carrots add a nice and subtle yet sour contrast to wake up your taste buds and ultimately enjoy!

Please help a small and burgeoning business - please spread the word ), and we hope you join us. Don’t forget to share through FB, Twitter and other places. I’m definitely finding the social networking is the best way to find new fans and curious observers! And please don’t be shy and let us know if you want to hire us for an event to make you look good. We WANT to make you look good and have all your guests enjoy “your” food. If you’re happy, WE happy! (no dance of joy video this time, but you can re-visit it for ol’ times sake HERE)

Instead, here’s a nice little surprise. Since we know most of you, this is a more personal video clip. This was actually from our wedding in Nov ‘08, and my favorite wedding table game we got to partake in during this very memorable event. And I do HAM it up a little bit… and no, that’s not a reference to Ham Tran who was actually one of my groomsmen as well. Enjoy!
