We hope everyone’s having a nice December thus far. Ours has been pretty much a… *YAWN* (insert an ENORMOUS amount of sarcasm…HERE)
We won’t lie to ya… NoHo may be shut down (*tear drop*) but there is a lot going on STILL at one time and yet ALL exciting too: prepping for DT, prepping for Supper Club, doing some catering (oh yeah, we DOES that too’s) and on… and on… and on. WOW, who woulda thunk it, right?!?!
Well, let’s just jump into it, shall we? (righty-o mateys)
SUPPER CLUB DETAILS:
It’s OFFICIALLY on… oh YES!
The Menu’s attached
I have at least 7 confirmed already (only 13 seats left)
It’s Dec. 11th @ 8pm
It’s $50 a pop (and it’ll be worth it & delicious)
We’ll have live music (no, really it’s not just an ipod…anymore)
That’s all I gotta say about yesterday’s service. Well that and “HOLY MOLY!”
It was the absolute BUSIEST food service we’ve had since the inception of our… and I’ll use it again… “covert culinary operation!”
Btw, I just wanted to take a moment to apologize if the food was coming out a little bit slowly and how we ran out. WOW, we just didn’t anticipate it. We even made MORE than usual to try to anticipate it, but you guys still surprised us. Goes to show you, don’t underestimate the power of the internet… that and great tastebuds wanting more (if we don’t say so ourselves ^_^).
Above are some pics from last night’s service. Check ‘em out on our Facebook Fan Page, and check out more including our fun R&D pics (Research & Development for the non-geeks out there) too. I talked to some of you last night about our idea, but wait and see kiddies. We’re going to actually offer opportunities to a select few of you to try some of these elusive dishes “R&D” dishes… FINALLY! I think we’re going to start in December. Keep on the look out.
Alrighty, I’m typing this up at 3.30a and I’m tired. I’ll leave you with this…
SUNDAY SERVICE: I would say this is one of our signature dishes, VN BRAISED COCONUT PORK (aka “thit kho”) served with sliced hard boiled eggs BOILED in the coconut stew (and it’s GOOD!)
We got lots more to tell ya… but I’ve gots little more energy left before i pass out and drool on my keyboard (from looking at all the food pics that are making me oh so hungry…. WHY didn’t I keep a stash of food from service??? ^_^)
While everyone is gallivanting around in their cute little costumes and consuming liquid libations (of the alcoholic sort I hope), we’re CRACKIN’ away at a whole new set of items for ya tomorrow when you wake up with a hangover (it’s because we love you oh so dearly ^_^).
The subject and pictures probably speak for themselves, but if you want a little bit more description of the deliciousness that we’re going to introduce Sunday (12-3p) here ya go:
Ohhhhhhhhh… what can I say to articulate the flavor in every cute lil’ morsel of tender and succulent VN BRAISED STAR ANISE PORK that can convey what it is and why you should come get it… WELL, if you’ve had the VN braised coconut pork (and after reading up SOME call it VN braised pork in caramel for those that are PICKY), it’s kinda like that… except w/ some stronger flavors (star anise) for an explosion (ka BOOM) of flavor, texture (ooo so tender!) and Vietnam all rolled up in one little bite sized package! (okay, maybe not Vietnam, but you get it… I hope)
And what can I say about the CRISPY TOFU BALLS… who woulda known crispy fried tofu could taste so good! They’re encrusted in honey panko, lightly filled w/ green onions and corn, and will be served w/ our tangy mustard mayo sauce for an oooooh so delicious delight for your tastebuds (bring a date, you could get lucky too ^_^). If you don’t like tofu, WHO CARES… ‘cause this sh-t’s good!
Oh yeah, we also have a new side we’re introducing too: PINEAPPLE FRIED RICE: So tomorrow should be a smörgåsbord of flavor, fun and…. did I mention FLAVOR!
Hope to see you guys out, and as always… quantity… is… LIMITED!
Hmmm…How do I put this? WE’VE BEEN DISCOVERED and we haz (yes HAZ) to shut DOWN!
(above: pic of cutely shaped pre-crispified KIMCHI RICE PATTIES…Awwwww)
WHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYY?
The main culprit (and our favorite friend): YELP! We were just getting too popular (and at the time of this post we still have a 5-STAR rating too), and we guess someone that wasn’t as excited about our “culinary movement” (if you will) expressed their displeasure and has asked that we stop. Plus I “GUESS” having a public forum like: a blog, twitter and/or Facebook MIGHT have gotten us found somehow.. right?!?! hehe
In the end this was just an experiment to try a ton of dishes we thought would be exciting, and we’ve made a lot of new friends and you guys (those of you that have stopped lurking and started EATING) have helped us shape and refine those flavors to help us graduate to our next step: SK DownTown.
One door closes… and another door is KICKED OPEN!
But hey, don’t cry and don’t worry. We’re not going away. We’re just getting started because they found us TOO LATE! We got all 3 of you now (hey mom, don’t leave now ‘cause it’s just gettin’ good!) as our loyal followers (and new friends ^_^) so hopefully we can continue growing this together.
Come tonight, and come inside through the front door this time for an “intimate dinner party” as we say “Goodbye” to the good times on the “shady” back-patio service area that once was as we shutdown our “covert culinary operation” from… yes… our apartment. But come so we can share the memories, and talk about our expansion into Downtown (which the man can’t do ANYTHING about because that’s LEGIT… SUCKAS!!!)
Stay in touch!
Hey, don’t forget you can email us anytime if you want more info on what’s going on and our future as well. The email address should be on the left. We’d love to hear from you!
DOWNTOWN SCHEDULE:
We will continue updating our DownTown services here too. I’ll update the schedule, but just in case you wanted to know here’s the current future SK DownTown LA schedule:
Dinner: Thursday, Dec. 3rd (6-9p)
Lunchie Munchies: Saturday, Dec. 5th (12-3p)
Lunchie Munchies: Saturday, Dec. 12th (12-3p)
DON’T FORGET we provide parking validation. And at night, it’s FREE FOR TWO HOURS! I know I write a lotta jibba jabba, but I feel bad a lot of you didn’t find it this last Saturday and coulda saved you the headache (and maybe $3-6).
TUESDAY? I thought you guys served on WEDNESDAY???
And yes, I know it’s Tuesday and that we normally serve on Wednesday… but we were ALWAYS planning on Tuesday this week because it’s Thanksgiving and most people are gone and we didn’t want to be lonely on a Wednesday.
What’s for Din Din?
For our dinner party (aka the unofficial SK Korean Food Festival), we’ll be having the following for your consumption pleasure:
Meat: Korean Beef Short-Ribs (Kalbi)
Veggie: Crispy Kimchi Rice Patties (aka “Game Changer #1”.. and I’m serious about that too!)
Side: Korean Glass Noodles (Jap Chae)
And for all the n00bs and our Korean friends out there, the burrito has a special surprise. Instead of the normal medium grain sushi rice (and for the record, REAL sushi rice is indeed short grain, but trust me when I say medium grain is pretty close to it AND tastes so much better than long grain IMHO), we stuff the burrito with KIMCHI FRIED RICE. Combined with your Kalbi, it’s a Korean EXPLOSION of flavor (ka-BOOOOOOOOOM!)
NoHo, please “Never Say Goodbye!”
Otherwise, we’ll still be cataloging our DownTown adventures AND our foodie adventures here through the blog. So don’t check out yet (damnit, I lost you already didn’t I?!?!?) So we’re not going away, and because of that we dedicate this music video montage to you… our readers and eaters! And if you do watch the video, I would say that this montage is a good representation of how SK events were like here in NoHo… kinda of ^_^:
Just in case that wasn’t good enough, this might be a TAD bit better ^_^:
So today (6-9p) is a special crunchy treat for everyone! I would say this could be to celebrate our now EIGHTEEN 5-star Yelp Reviews (which is awesome)... but naw! It’s because this is what we came up with, and it really is too much fun for us ^_^
The Metro: Before I jump into it, really quick note. If you DIDN’T know, we’re actually REALLY close to the North Hollywood Metro stop (5-10 min walk). Click this link (because Tumblr’s not liking me trying to embed the map) for walking directions from the station if you’re planning on being a little green and coming by Metro: http://bit.ly/zqxwn
What we’re serving up tonight:
In the Meat corner: VIETNAMESE BAKED GROUND GARLIC PORK (aka “nem nuong”) w/ EACH dish served with crispy fried egg roll wrapper in every bite. Everything is also served w/ what we like to call our YUM YUM SK sauce that is traditionally served w/ Nem Nuong, and is painstakingly made up of slowly cooked glutinous rice, ground chicken and all sorts of Vietnamese flavors but so DARN GOOD with this. I don’t even know how to describe it anymore, but the best way I can is… “Drool” (that’s for you Joe and Natasha ^_^)
In the Veggie/Kosher: CRISPY KIMCHI RICE PATTIES (or as I like to call it, one of our our new “game changer” veggie dishes because it’s so crisp-ity crunch-ity that you don’t need meat!!!)
The Side: ALL dishes served with I THINK JAPANESE GARLIC NOODLES which are oh so garlicky + delicious. DOH, can’t find my pic. Oh well, you’re just going to have to believe me on this one. If you like garlic, Parmesan cheese and noodles… you’ll DEVOUR this. If this changes, I’ll update on Facebook/twitter.
And there you have it. Tonight’s going to be a tasty and fun night, ‘cause this sh-t is GOOD! ^_^ Hope to see you guys out, and as always LIMITED quantity (especially with our “game changer” ^_^).
If you think you’re going to show up later (closer to 8p or so), you can email, Facebook or Twitter your order BEFORE 6p (I can still operate on the buddy system right now if you wouldn’t believe it), and we’ll make sure to hold your food. After 6p, I just get crazed and will try to check everything as much as possible, but no guarantees unless you get a direct response from me. Thanks!
So tonight, we’re back (6-9p) and we’re bringing something old and something new:
Something old = KALBI/KOREAN SHORT-RIBS (aka “the meat”)
Something new = CRISPY KIMCHI RICE PATTIES (aka “the veggie”)
I tried these CRISPY KIMCHI critters last night, and OMFG… hot diggity dawg are they tasty! If there was anything that could convince many of our carnivorous patrons to switch to the “veggie” side, this could be it. These are DEFINITELY in limited quantity, so if you want some let us know or ROLL the dice and see if we still have ‘em when you get here. I can’t stop salivating like a dog in heat (yup, that’s the image I’m going with here) just thinking about the crunchy rice infused w/ eggs (yeah, EGGS), parm cheese (CHEEEEEESE) and kimchi topped with this awesome-tastic tangy sauce we just created for this. I just have to say “SHAM WOW!”
ALL dishes served with a side of yummy JAP CHAE (Korean glass noodles) We ALWAYS sell out of the KALBI, so if you want some show up early or pre-order (via twitter, email, facebook, phone or messenger pigeon).
We hope everyone’s having a nice December thus far. Ours has been pretty much a… *YAWN* (insert an ENORMOUS amount of sarcasm…HERE)
