Welcome to Week 3 = “The Rotation Revolution”
Is it THAT revolutionary to rotate the menu?? NAW! But for this area… ummm… YEAH!
As far as the rotation rules, we have come up with that we will keep ALL DISHES WILL STAY AT LEAST 2 WEEKS. So don’t fret, we won’t rotate TOO often if you find something you love. And once we figure out what people love the most… some MIGHT become more available than others. :)
So, we’ll make this short, but a quick re-cap of what’s new and what’s gone:
GONE!
Korean Short-Ribs
Crispy Tofu Balls (I know, I know you guys like this… soon… soon!)
Pineapple Fried Rice
Curry Fried Rice (from week 1)
Korean Glass Noodles (Japchae)
NEW
Japanese Meatball (aka Hamburger) Curry (uh huuuuh… CUUUUURRRY!)
A short quote from a description of these from our former Underground mailing list: “As you get to know us, you’ll find that we love many a thing… and that includes honey panko and eggs. And this patty’s got plenty of those to give it a mouth-watering flavor that will send you home in a euphoric state, kick up your feet, and find you some FLAVOR-OF-LOVE on tv cause that sh-t’s hilarious.”

Stir-Fried Kimchi + King Oyster Mushrooms
And another short quote on these badboys: “Hmmm… what’s the best way to describe this in as few words or sounds as possible… (KA-BOOOOM) <- that being an explosion of flavor and texture in your mouth of course! It’s a tasty veg especially w/ King Oyster Mushrooms giving it a high-class texture of Abalone (that’s an expensive sea food appreciated by Asians between you and me) but at a fraction of the price, oh BOY!”

Sliced Jalapenos!
Many of you asked, so now you shall receive. If you want them, just ask! We offer than now for people that are like me because your food has to “hurt SO good!”

Chiles en Escaveche
Our Sous Chef Juvencio thought this would be a good addition and option for customers… so we offer it starting TODAY! Let us know how you like ‘em, they’re PURDY tasty! :) Here’s even a picture for you ‘cause we loves ya so much:

LAST WEEK FOR:
VN Braised Coconut Pork (my personal fave)
Them’s the rules, so come get it this week before we boot it (and trust me… I’m personally gonna be sad when we do, it’s my ALL TIME FAVE!!!)

Alrighty, let’s see what F’ Ups… ummm… I mean “LESSONS” week 3 brings us! Thanks everyone.

“RIGHTEOUS”…
As one of our regulars said at the mention of what we’re serving today… and we LIKE it! We also LOVE that we have like 16 five star reviews on Yelp now too! WOO HOO! If you haven’t written one, and feel so inclined… we’d love your help. Thanks ;)
Time: TONITES, 6-9p (or earlier if we run out… which is happening more often than not)
Meat: JAPANESE HAMBURGER CURRY
Veggie: FRIED TOFU CURRY (and it’s crunch-tastic!)
Side: say it slowly with me.. WASABI…MASHED.. ‘TATERS… and it’s friggin’ delish!!
Oh boy! If I haven’t ever told you, I’m kind of a curry connoisseur. Not that I know a lot about curry or can articulate the intricate ratios of the many complicated spices that make up curry… but I just LOVE curry in ANY form: Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Malaysian…. it’s all good to me.
THANKFULLY, Japanese Curry, if you haven’t had it, is the MOST PALATABLE of all the curry cousins. It’s a little bit sweet, a whole lot less pungent and we’re putting a little bit of kick tonight in terms of spice… but not so much to knock you completely on your a— suckas! ^_^
And oh BOY, if you haven’t had the Japanese hamburger we make for this, it is scrum-diddly-umptous! (thanks to Ned Flanders for that great expression) As you get to know us, you’ll find that we love many a thing… and that includes honey panko and eggs. And this patty’s got plenty of those to give it a mouth-watering flavor that will send you home in a euphoric state that you’ll want to kick up your feet and find you some FLAVOR-OF-LOVE on that there television set cause that sh-t’s hilarious.
But anyway, hope to see you tonight ‘cause it’s going to be GOOoooOOOoOOD and limited. Oh yeah, if you want some, just let us know early.
ALSO, NEW RULE: If you contact me during service (twitter, Facebook or phone), I cannot guarantee a response. We get slammed and I can’t be sitting on the internets while I’m serving foods to peoples. But if you get a response, AWESOME! #Wednesday night service #japanese hamburger curry #new rule

As we said in a tweet… even if it’s ONE new convert or customer at a time… you know what??? It’s STILL fun! And ya know, we don’t mind that (until we go out there into the REAL WORLD with our BRILLIANT ideas… mwahahahaha).

So, the LEMONGRASS PORK + SPICY TOFU went well. Strangely, the MAJORITY of people that ordered (I’d like to think mistakenly) and consumed (aka “devoured”) LEMONGRASS SPICY TOFU really kinda sort definitely liked it! We were happily flippity flabbergasted (take THAT my not close to perfect SAT test scores) at the response to this, which I can safely say the KITCHEN NINJA, Thi Tran, was very happy to hear that.

So- you’re bored, you’re reading our blog and you don’t want to see anymore food pics to trigger any cravings that would make you want to come visit STARRY KITCHEN (god forbid!). If that’s true, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and revisit a dish that we’ve been fairly conflicted on… and after much debate and discussion, JAPANESE HAMBURGER CURRY comes back with some gusto!

From Blog Pics

So THERE you have it! We’re trying to figure out possibly working the croquettes into it too (click HERE for a honey bear filled with spicy mayo and topped off…literally, with a dainty croquette hat… HOORAY)

Here goes the usual: Sunday, July 26th from 12-3p. Hope to see you there, and please bring the friends. We want to continue converting people and growing too. So you think of anyone, we’re happy to serve them (unless its Steve Seagal or someone mean ^^).

Until then, did I EVER tell you how much I love B-R-A-K??? Oh man, it’s pure genius I love it… with masterful lyrics that only BRAK, the international alien lover and destroyer, can successfully woo women with… and it goes something like this “I LOVE YOU BABY”

#lemongrass pork #spicy lemongrass tofu #japanese hamburger curry

Hello, Hi, Hola, Aloha, and Bonjour

That goes out to all the n00bs (pronounced NEWBIES) that came out on Wednesday night. I mean, HOLY SCHNIKES (I can’t believe my spell checker doesn’t know how to spell “SCHNIKES”) it’s awesome to meet new people, make new friends, hopefully new fans ;) and just discuss FOOD! You heard me, M to the mutha F’in FOOD! ’Cause you know what? There’s some good sh-t out there and that wants to make me strip down to my skivvies (but my spell checker DOES know how to spell “skivvies”) and dream that I’m like Julie Andrews from The Sound of Music because, “the HILLS are alive with the sound of music…. ahhhhhh….. haaaaaaa”

In all seriousness (step aside Chuck Norris, it’s not your time to shine as a Magic: The Gathering card today), it’s awesome to meet other foodies. We love food, we love you, and we love to make people happy (unless you piss us off). Is that so much to ask in life??? And if it is, that F YOU cause you’re wrong and I’m right! mwahahahaha If any FOUR of you were offended by that (please cover your eyes mommy)…. HAHAHAHAHA thatza TOO bad… itza MY BLOG… notta yours! ^_^)

What are you serving this Sunday?

And the answer to that is the same answer I gave on the school yard when I was a kid:

“NUNYA….NUNYA BIZNESS!”

aka

“Thank you kind patron for your interest and inquiry. We would love to fulfill your request at this time, but unfortunately (for you) when we serve a new dish we don’t release that info until the day of our food service to keep your excitement at an optimal level. Thank you, come again!”

And if you didn’t figure it out, it’s going to be a new dish this Sunday. If you don’t remember the RULES:

Old Dish (aka one we’ve done before) - we tell ya once we figure out which one we’re doing

New Dish - SURPRISE! We tell you day of, and either you trust us.. or you don’t. And if you don’t, you know what I always say, “that means more for ME!”

Now if this post is coming off a little snarky, please don’t think it is. It’s just a lot of harmless sarcasm as told by this witless fool (moi) just wanting your attention for another 30 seconds to make me feel like an internet star and validated… and while I have this post going out at 9.15am it’s actually 3.30a at this time so I’m a little delirious. :)

On that delirious note, take a moment out of your boring work day as you ponder what you’re going to do tonight, what girl (or guy) you think you might hook up with (but you know you aren’t going to) and plan your weekend out (Sunday STARRY KITCHEN service 12-3p anyone??) to stop thinking and watch this video of how the classic Super Mario Bros game would be if… CHUCK NORRIS were the hero. It’s dumb, mindless, and full of guns, karate kicks, a chain saw and a flamethrower. Just what the doctor ordered for this special Friday post. Enjoy (Mom)

#japanese hamburger curry #crispy tofu #Wednesday night service #chuck norris #new dish!

OMG - we’re taking enough TwitPics that a TwitPic review is in order… and doh, I’m kind of a techie and just realized that Tumblr (the service that STARRY KITCHEN uses to blog) actually can import RSS feeds. What does that mean in lamens terms? It means you can find all the STARRY KITCHEN goodness in one place (but you can still follow us on Twitter or Facebook ^_^). Take a look at what we’re eating!

REMINDER

Sunday, July 25th (12-3p) = new+improved JAPANESE HAMBURGER (beef+pork) CURRY 2.0 w/ ASIAN SLAW! Oh man, if you’re a meat eater, this is one succulent MO FO, and then w/ the much more subtle flavors of Japanese curry it’s so darn delish (we know curry is a strong spice for people, but this is probably the most palatable for those that can’t take it)… oh yes, if you’re lonely tomorrow, bring (aka coerce, drag, drug, whatever) a special “friend” ‘cause you may not be after this service. ^^

If you’re Vegetarian or Jewish (or our local favorite super combo-a Vegetarian Jew), we’re serving up a CRISPY TOFU w/ JAPANESE CURRY. We know some of you carnivores don’t lean towards tofu, but trust that many of our carnivorous friends here who called it NO-FU now call it “Give me some mo’ of that TOFU ‘cuz it’s so delicious before I smack you up the head FOO.”

And you want a video? Do we got a video for you. Here’s a film called WHITE ON RICE that we’re involved in (on the film side). Check it out. It’s coming soon to a theater near you (if you’re in a major city) starting with Los Angeles in Sept! Follow them on Twitter too HERE. WOO HOO!!

#twitpic review #japanese hamburger curry #asian slaw #crispy tofu #white on rice the movie
Here it is (or was), Japanese hamburger curry!!! Above is both our veggie and non-vegtacular (well it was!) version:

(on the left) with deep fried morsels of tofu w/ the smörgåsbord slow cooked stewed veggies in the curry. SEE, that ain’t even close to rabbit food, right?!?!

(on the right) that’s the hamburger dish du JOUR!!! It’s a mix of pork, beef, garlic and…LOVE! That’s the most important ingredient… well, next to the Japanese curry of course.

And here’s a quick thought on Japanese curry:

Ohhhhhhh Japanese curry… you are so much less potent, less pungent, less spicy and less everything else that many can’t take about curry. While most would be discouraged with the lessening of what makes all other versions of curry unique, oh NO! You decide to set yourself apart and make yourself the tasty-rrific and more “user friendly” version that you are today! (end scene)… kinda sounds like those hilarious Bud Light - “Real Men of Genius” Commercials, right? Here’s a good compilation of just a few of them (the audio’s out of sync, but who cares… let the hilarity ensue):

…

But I digress. Back to the topic at hand. THANKS for all that showed up today. It was a whirlwind in the beginning and… well, we kind of had to close shop early because we sold out. YEE HAW! A FIRST in the history of Starry Kitchen (all 3 weeks of our history that is LOL).

From this outing I will present this one question or observation to you guys:

How did you guys like the Japanese curry?

To tell you guys the truth, we were a little iffy (it’s actually a WORD now- here’s the definition as defined by Merriam-Webster) on this one dish, but that’s what trials are for, right? Gotta take some RISKS, and see what works out.

Curry, even if it’s Japanese, is still a strong spice and not for everyone. It is a great Asian comfort food though, and we definitely wanted to take a stab. And ultimately, this dish was actually more about the succulent morsels of mouthwatering goodness and it’s marriage of luscious flavor with the curry, and if you agree the meat even NEAR that then… MISSION ACCOMPLISHED; if you didn’t, tough luck! HA More for us and for others (but your opinion is duly noted, filed and sorted away with all the other TPS Reports ^_^).

Otherwise, here’s the hint for our next dish du jour… and a hint for the hint, I promise it’s not Peter. Take a look:

Peace out,
