It had to happen. Today’s the last day for SK KARA-GE AND last day for…

(aka dineLA for lunch and Din-Dins tonight!! ^_^)

And why is the KITCHEN NINJA’s cutely awesome Master Yoda pic above too? Well ‘cause she’s our Jedi Master creating all this culinary deliciousness for us to stuff our faces with (and I fuckin’ love that pic of her.. so damn CUTE! haha)

But hey, don’t be sad about all this “sad” news y’all, it’s almost the WEEKEND (and you can still get some of this grub today too! *wink wink*)  

If you’re still sad, let’s bring in the weekend with this AWESOME+PERFECT bring in the weekend and get PLASTERED (after stuffing your face at SK) song from The Black Keys (and equally awesomely simple music video too… btw, this guy is so so fuckin’ RAD and kinda reminds me of me too.. SERIOUSLY! ^_^)

In other news… one of the other fan favorites, the TAIWANESE FRIED PORK CHOP makes it’s triumphant TASTY return next week! (if you aren’t happy after listening to that song AND this news… I dunno what else to do for you other than DANCE for ya :D)

If ya didn’t figure it out… the Kitchen Ninja (aka @StarryKN) kinda likey her some tofu!! (aka the SWEET+SPICY GINGER FRIED TOFU is back and pretty F’ING delish… if you don’t mind me saying)

SO if you just missed (i.e. “SKIPPED”) my “aka” comment above, YUP, the SWEET+SPICY GINGER FRIED TOFU (veggie-friendly btw) is back… and it’s pretty awesome! Outside of the CRISPY TOFU BALLS, this is the ONLY other tofu we fry (all others are marinated+sauteed in flavortastic ways like last weeks LEMONGRASS TOFU) PLUS We use soft tofu INSTEAD of firm tofu to fry ‘cause.. well, firm tofu kinda gets a “yucky” (which is a real word to describe textures by the way) rubbery texture sometimes, and soft tofu is “Barry White” silky smooth and combined with that crunch- it’s “oh so delightful!” ;)
And that sh-t (aka “flavors!”) the Kitchen Ninja tosses it in is pretty darn DELICIOUS y’all. It’s SO good (in my very humble and subtle opinion of course ^_^), that the sauce was originally designed for meat (True story!) and she was like,

“Ach… why does meat have to get the good stuff all the time. This time.. VEGGIES get ‘em the GOOOOOOOD stuff!” And then she broke out in dance-and-song to Bobby Brown’s “Mr Prerogative” to make sure that people and meat knows what’s up and who’s the boss!




(I kinda remember her reacting JUST like that… maybe.. possibly… okay not really but it could be a better dramatization than the reality :D)

The Adventures of Starry Kitchen (Hello! Today WE’RE BACK so that means: ...) 

Hello 2012.. we’re BACK!  For those that could make it last week, the menu is EXACTLY the same (and for those that can’t see the menu unless there’s a direct link to the image vs. the link to the left side because the menu MIGHT be NSFW [I mean, it’s just a menu], just click the link above to get that menu.. see, I think about you guys behind all your firewalls and techno-mo-logy ;D)

First big change, our Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/any other holiday I forgot present to you (if you didn’t already know): CRISPY TOFU BALLS… FOREVER! SEE (the KITCHEN NINJA and our boy “Gordo” working hard making dem balls for YOU), that’s a pretty big change if you’ve been on gone on a nice lil vacation! And considering we have the SK KARA-GE on the menu you can make a cute Japanese Popcorn Chix and Tofu Balls smiley face too.. I mean if you have the time and want to (like me!) ^_^

Other changes?  I dunno, but things are a percolating (at least in our minds) and it’s time get this dog-and-pony show on the road, don’t you think? Btw, that’s not a hint that we’re getting a food truck or anything- it just means it’s time to move forward and grow this bad boy. ;D

I’m pretty sure we’ll re-visit (and possibly grow) our Oxtail+Bone Marrow+Beef Knuckle Pho Night!

(this is melt in yo’ mouth bone marrow that’s part of our PHOOOOOO!)

And considering we only did the FISH+(TARO) CHIPS w/ Curry Apple Chutney-liciousness one day and how popular it was during that day, we’re seriously considering the FISH+(TARO) CHIPS FRIDAYS soon too (psssst- it’s battered w/ VODKA! haha)

Btw, that shit was CRISPY good too…

Now if you’ve read this far, “snaps to YOU” because… who reads this blog and/or this far anyway?!?! Which leads me to my personal+professional New Year’s Resolution:

It’s time to FINALLY stop talking, tweeting, blogging, facebooking about it. All that is cheap, it’s time to GROW this mo’fo!

  • Do we have any specific plans? Yes and no  
  • Is it gonna be hard and is the restaurant business still f’ing hard??? Ummm YEAH! I’m still f’ing up behind-the-scenes (it ain’t easy y’all!!)
  • but is it time to get off our asses and make it a reality? HELL YEAH IT IS!

This is a tough business guys. I won’t lie to you (well except to Chuck Norris, I never know what kinda mental games that guy is up to “hi-YA!”)  I’ve learned a lot, fucked up even more and I will say this:

WE ARE SOOOOOOO LUCKY WE’VE LASTED THIS LONG!!

(and if you haven’t figured it out, it’s all thanks to YOU.. the 1 person left that felt like reading this far ^_^)

And on that sappy note, if you aren’t anywhere close to (I was going to say “AN” SK as if we had more than one restaurant.. see, I’m already preparing myself mentally!) Starry Kitchen and ARE close to a Jack in the Box.. why not consider a “Jumbaco.. JUMBACO!” (feel free to sing+dance it in your office at the very least ;D)

(sure, this COULD be considered advertising for the “other team”.. but I think it’s pretty hilarious, especially lil Jack’s reaction when the ad exec kills the idea.. haha)

Hey, it’s a short holiday week and we dun like to rotate anything out during these times. Plus we can’t bring in the highly coveted CRISPY TOFU BALLS next Monday because it actually does take us a day to make ‘em bad boys (hence TUESDAY!) Consider this my birthday present from me (mine’s actually this Friday, Nov 25th ^_^).. to you! (even though it should be the other way around, right?!?! haha)

Until then, the aromatic deliciousness that is the 3 CUP TOFU is STILL on along w/ it’s tasty compadres MALAYSIAN COCONUT PINEAPPLE CHICKEN, NEBRASKA ANGUS JAPANESE MEATBALL CURRY and (since it’s soupy-souptastic weather today) the CILANTRO SCALLION MEATBALL SOUP!

Not as “ballsy” as our buddies at Team @RedMedcineLA ‘s recent bad ass-ery (whether you/we all agree w/ it or not ^_^), but I can’t think of a better way to kick off the holiday break (L’haim to that my brothas & sistahs!) than a beautifully photoshopped wedding picture of us and our… BAAAAAALLS!!! haha
(I mean, we gots to bring it back to us chockos.. and why argue about critics and other “industry” mumbo-jumbo all day long when you can laugh at us all day long too! ^_^)
Our friend/fan Danny P had some spare time, enjoyed our wedding pics and enjoyed our balls (the crispy tofu kind of course)… so this was a naturally logical progression if you think about it (if you’re very creative and/or high “as a kite!” maybe LOL) And as much as some of you’z wouldn’t believe it, this was ALL Danny’s idea. So “Bravo… BRAVO” Danny. You, as always, are the best-est (also because he walks our dog GQ for us from time to time… what a guy!! ^_^)

Kinda wanna see if people will come out and play (and while you’re “playing” maybe you want to EAT at SK too! LOL) That and next week is going to be the beginning of a test, and not just ANY test:
BUT the test of our staff.. WITHOUT myself and/or the Kitchen Ninja!!
(these jokers below don’t work for us anymore, but as you can see as we misconstrue this pic.. it could be a lot more foolin’ around while we’re gone… which means it won’t actually be too different than normal LOL ;p)

2011 is gonna be about kicking it into… OVEEEEERDRIVE (or at least one more gear above the gear were at right now OR kicking it down one gear and “revving up the RPMS” super-high depending on how geeky+technical+NERDY [like me] you are about these analogies… ^_^) because next year is about not only having MORE fun for us, but we will attempt the seemingly impossible.. EXPANSION (Finally!)

(it’s actually been published in a couple of places including Eater LA and an interview the KN did for Menuism) Sorry we didn’t acknowledge it before, it’s just too busy sometimes… thas all. Not as “ballsy” as our buddies at Team @RedMedcineLA ‘s recent bad ass-ery (whether you/we all agree w/ it or not ^_^), but I can’t think of a better way to kick off the holiday break (L’haim to that my brothas & sistahs!) than a beautifully photoshopped wedding picture of us and our… BAAAAAALLS!!! haha

(I mean, we gots to bring it back to us chockos.. and why argue about critics and other “industry” mumbo-jumbo all day long when you can laugh at us all day long too! ^_^)

Our friend/fan Danny P had some spare time, enjoyed our wedding pics and enjoyed our balls (the crispy tofu kind of course)… so this was a naturally logical progression if you think about it (if you’re very creative and/or high “as a kite!” maybe LOL) And as much as some of you’z wouldn’t believe it, this was ALL Danny’s idea. So “Bravo… BRAVO” Danny. You, as always, are the best-est (also because he walks our dog GQ for us from time to time… what a guy!! ^_^)

Back to other delicious business- like how you should enjoy and savor the MALAYSIAN COCONUT PINEAPPLE CHICKEN on a bed of Shallot Fried Rice ‘cause it’s REALLY F’ING GOOOOOOD that way! (conveniently pictured below ;D)

SOOOOOO today is our LAST meal(s) day of the week (11-3/Lunchie-Munchies & 6-9.30p/Din-Dins), with also the RETURN of the belovedly (<- that’s a legitimate version of the word stupid spell checker, I promise!) JUUUUICY:

SK KARA-GE (aka Japanese Popcorn Chicken) for Din-Dins ONLY… TONIGHT! (come and get it… pretty pretty PLEASE?!?!)

The Adventures of Starry Kitchen (Hello! Today WE’RE BACK so that means: ...)→

Hello 2012.. we’re BACK!  For those that could make it last week, the menu is EXACTLY the same (and for those that can’t see the menu unless there’s a direct link to the image vs. the link to the left side because the menu MIGHT be NSFW [I mean, it’s just a menu], just click the link above to get that menu.. see, I think about you guys behind all your firewalls and techno-mo-logy ;D)

First big change, our Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/any other holiday I forgot present to you (if you didn’t already know): CRISPY TOFU BALLS… FOREVER! SEE (the KITCHEN NINJA and our boy “Gordo” working hard making dem balls for YOU), that’s a pretty big change if you’ve been on gone on a nice lil vacation! And considering we have the SK KARA-GE on the menu you can make a cute Japanese Popcorn Chix and Tofu Balls smiley face too.. I mean if you have the time and want to (like me!) ^_^

Other changes?  I dunno, but things are a percolating (at least in our minds) and it’s time get this dog-and-pony show on the road, don’t you think? Btw, that’s not a hint that we’re getting a food truck or anything- it just means it’s time to move forward and grow this bad boy. ;D

I’m pretty sure we’ll re-visit (and possibly grow) our Oxtail+Bone Marrow+Beef Knuckle Pho Night!

(this is melt in yo’ mouth bone marrow that’s part of our PHOOOOOO!)

And considering we only did the FISH+(TARO) CHIPS w/ Curry Apple Chutney-liciousness one day and how popular it was during that day, we’re seriously considering the FISH+(TARO) CHIPS FRIDAYS soon too (psssst- it’s battered w/ VODKA! haha)

Btw, that shit was CRISPY good too…

Now if you’ve read this far, “snaps to YOU” because… who reads this blog and/or this far anyway?!?! Which leads me to my personal+professional New Year’s Resolution:

It’s time to FINALLY stop talking, tweeting, blogging, facebooking about it. All that is cheap, it’s time to GROW this mo’fo!

  • Do we have any specific plans? Yes and no  
  • Is it gonna be hard and is the restaurant business still f’ing hard??? Ummm YEAH! I’m still f’ing up behind-the-scenes (it ain’t easy y’all!!)
  • but is it time to get off our asses and make it a reality? HELL YEAH IT IS!

This is a tough business guys. I won’t lie to you (well except to Chuck Norris, I never know what kinda mental games that guy is up to “hi-YA!”)  I’ve learned a lot, fucked up even more and I will say this:

WE ARE SOOOOOOO LUCKY WE’VE LASTED THIS LONG!!

(and if you haven’t figured it out, it’s all thanks to YOU.. the 1 person left that felt like reading this far ^_^)

And on that sappy note, if you aren’t anywhere close to (I was going to say “AN” SK as if we had more than one restaurant.. see, I’m already preparing myself mentally!) Starry Kitchen and ARE close to a Jack in the Box.. why not consider a “Jumbaco.. JUMBACO!” (feel free to sing+dance it in your office at the very least ;D)

(sure, this COULD be considered advertising for the “other team”.. but I think it’s pretty hilarious, especially lil Jack’s reaction when the ad exec kills the idea.. haha)

If ya didn&#8217;t figure it out&#8230; the Kitchen Ninja (aka @StarryKN) kinda likey her some tofu!! (aka the SWEET+SPICY GINGER FRIED TOFU is back and pretty F&#8217;ING delish&#8230; if you don&#8217;t mind me saying)

SO if you just missed (i.e. &#8220;SKIPPED&#8221;) my &#8220;aka&#8221; comment above, YUP, the SWEET+SPICY GINGER FRIED TOFU (veggie-friendly btw) is back&#8230; and it&#8217;s pretty awesome! Outside of the CRISPY TOFU BALLS, this is the ONLY other tofu we fry (all others are marinated+sauteed in flavortastic ways like last weeks LEMONGRASS TOFU) PLUS We use soft tofu INSTEAD of firm tofu to fry &#8216;cause.. well, firm tofu kinda gets a &#8220;yucky&#8221; (which is a real word to describe textures by the way) rubbery texture sometimes, and soft tofu is &#8220;Barry White&#8221; silky smooth and combined with that crunch- it&#8217;s &#8220;oh so delightful!&#8221; ;)
And that sh-t (aka &#8220;flavors!&#8221;) the Kitchen Ninja tosses it in is pretty darn DELICIOUS y&#8217;all. It&#8217;s SO good (in my very humble and subtle opinion of course ^_^), that the sauce was originally designed for meat (True story!) and she was like,

&#8220;Ach&#8230; why does meat have to get the good stuff all the time. This time.. VEGGIES get &#8216;em the GOOOOOOOD stuff!&#8221; And then she broke out in dance-and-song to Bobby Brown&#8217;s &#8220;Mr Prerogative&#8221; to make sure that people and meat knows what&#8217;s up and who&#8217;s the boss!




(I kinda remember her reacting JUST like that&#8230; maybe.. possibly&#8230; okay not really but it could be a better dramatization than the reality :D)
