Japanese Garlic Noodles are on “for REALZ” today! And they are super-duper garlicky good…yuuuummers! ^_^
(and if you wanna opt outta the garlic for the day, we’re gonna have some Korean Glass Noodles for the next day or two for good measure)
And if you’re gonna be kinda bored until you come and “garlic it UP” with us today, why not read this interesting article on the advanced geometry behind pasta! Just click the pretty+tasty lookin’ geometri picture below ;)
And Bye-bye to Chuck Norris endorsed Martial Arts Jeans… HEEEEEY, wait a New York minute!!! When did these ever get popular and why don’t I own a pair or seven of these ass-kickin’ jeans too? (and if they weren’t popular, why weren’t they? Can you imagine how rad it would be to round house someone like your neighbor or a book store clerk like Chuck Norris in your jeans!! You would totaly pwn them for life!! ^_^)
…
(end random Chuck Norris moment)
Alrighty y’all, that’s it! Hope to see ya at lunch, tonight’s Din-Dins or next week And sorry, no Saturday Din-Dins this week… we couldn’t pull it off. Not enough staff avail to work. :(
The dish that started it ALL for SK (the BRAISED COCONUT PORK… and now made w/ BELLY!) is back on foo’s!!! If you want a short history with a picture of me in a sombrero and poncho, you need not look any further than HERE!
I teeter on whether or not this is my FAVORITE dish of all time (with the pork belly it SURE does help), but it’s definitely up there. It’s so f’ing GOOD!
And after much crying, complaining, whining and did I mention… crying?!?!
The Korean Glass Noodles (aka “japchae”) are BACK on the menu. Nothing fancy-schmancy, just good ol’ classic Korean JAPCHAE!! ^_^
…
And damn, I’m outta time again, so why not begin your week with… MR. T (I know, SOOOOO predictable)
And THAT is the announcement for today. And if you noticed, we changed the ‘C‘rab Cake to a ‘K‘rab Cake (w/ a K if you didn’t notice the difference still, m’kay?!). People pointed out to me last time:
“Hey Nguyen, don’t be such a stupid-head. You should spell it with a capital K ‘cause that’s how you represent imitation crab meat foo’. Don’t be such a bozo!”
After crying on the inside for about three months (I still weep even as I’m typing this post :p), I was like… “YEAH, that’s a good idea!” so there you have it. If you ever wondered what it looks like on the inside (I can confirm it doesn’t look like caramel popcorn for anyone CRAAAZY enough to think that :D), here’s a lil pic of the Krab-liciousness (w/ Jalapenos, cilantro & carrots) for your viewing pleasure:
And just in case you were wondering… here they are w/ some Wasabi Mayo in a banh mi sandwich:
Btw, I hope everyone had a happy halloween too! ^_^
Aside from all that, it was KINDA last minute but last week was the LAST WEEK for the Japanese Garlic Noodles (BOOOO), but since we can’t settle on a new noodle dish yet the Korean Glass Noodles are BACK (OoooooHHH YEAAAAAAH!):
… AAAALSO (wow, how can I have so much news???) I think today’s the LAST DAY for the PINEAPPLE BEER CHICKEN WING SOUP (made w/ Sapporo Beer foo’s!) I know, it’s a lil warmer so we’ll resume soup-liciousness when it gets a TAD colder again.
And if you’re still reading (after many a month OR just a many a minute), this is the LAST LUNCHIE-MUNCHIES WEEK for the LEMONGRASS TOFU! Enjoy it while you can (again) suckas. It’s goin’ away!
And on that note, why don’t we start off the month of November with a nice + soothing song by the Gentle Waves (be warned, it could put you into a dreamy state… it’s THAT soothing!) And for any of our hipster-wanna-be readers (‘cause the hipsters prolly already know this), I’m PRETTY sure the lead sing of the Gentle Waves used to be part of hipster fave (and I like ‘em too!): Belle and Sebastian. ^_^
Alrighty, more music… more eating… and more driving (‘cause i gots to get me some bread now).
DOH! Time escapes me today.. so rather than blog a whole lotta nonsense (my favorite part if you ask me), here’s what coming in and out:
IN:
SALTED PLUM CHICKEN WINGS CONFIT!
and the beloved KOREAN GLASS NOODLES (aka “japchae!”)
OUT:
LEMONGRASS TOFU
That’s it. Hope to see ya in to get the Chix Wings and/or Japchae (both are SO good).
And in case you are one of our two readers (ok, it’s really only one… ME! waaaaah) that knew about the Beer Float Showdown #3 this past weekend, we didn’t win (but we found more people liked our SALTED PLUM HABANERO ICE CREAM w/ PLUM POP ROCKS than WE even expected.. NICE!) but here’s a nice video montage of us and our competitors/friends at this fun event (we’ll get you next time Andre+Jan! haha) Enjoy-
“And I raaaan… I ran so far awaaaay” when I heard it was New Wave WEDNESDAY!! (that kinda rhymes if you say it JUST the right way ^_^)
Unfortunately, not much time to blogsies today. Being a restaurateur is CRAZY busy sometimes (and I cannot WAIT to tell all 6-7 of you of the ups+downs of this biz ESPECIALLY where I completely f’ed up too.. hopefully sooner rather than later. It ain’t all pretty, lemme tell ya!)
Dont forget that this is the REAL last week (as opposed to last week’s FAKE “last week” LOL) for the CHINESE HOISIN HAMBURGER + Korean Glass Noodles.
And don’t forget to get yer tickets to the LA STREET FOOD FEST TOO! We’re gonna make our “triumphant” return, and we have something VERY special planned for this one (and no it doesn’t have anything to do with my banana suit and balls.. I think!)
Would you like some SPICY KOREAN BLACK PORK BELLY?!?! (I’m not actually sure what your answer would be.. but mine is “HELL YEAH!!!” LOL)
Btw, we had to do something that might seem kinda D-Baggy and possibly breaking our “No D-Bags” rule, but we have to charge a $1 premium for every order for the SPICY KOREAN BLACK PORK BELLY. :(
Sorry about that guys, when they say “food costs are going up”… they ain’t kiddin’ y’all! My costs have almost DOUBLED versus when we first started serving this. We hope you don’t mind (because it’s REALLY tasty especially in a banh mi sandwich ^_^)
And in other bad news (even though I wouldn’t consider a $1 premium THAT bad of news… maybe) it’s the LAST week of the CHINESE HOISIN HAMBURGER chockos. If you want some of that tasty and saucy-liciousness, time to get “eat on” now.
And the LAST piece of bad news (yeah, there’s actually more… well, not for everyone): LAST week for the Korean Glass Noodles (aka japchae). The classic Korean (and also SK) side is making it’s exit. You want some of dis (and/or the CHINESE HOISIN HAMBURGER).. come a gits it!
Ya know what can make ALL this bad news better… why a little Elton John Crocodile Rock sing-along (of course!!!)
Xoxo,
TEAM SK
PS- please don’t hate us about the lil premium! If/When Berkshire/Black/Kurobuta pork belly prices go down, I PROMISE we’ll adjust accordingly!!
Kajagoogoo..KAJAGOOGOO!! That’s what the name of this group is that sing’s “Too shy to shyyyy.. hush hush, eye to eye!!” Seriously, it’s not a joke. I didn’t even know that until I sought out the video today for NEW WAVE WEDNESDAY (I literally could just start and end the post w/ their name ‘cause I’m still laughing about the name! ^_^)
Well, since that’s outta the way…
It’s COOOOLD out there, so get your asses some CILANTRO SCALLION MEATBALL SOUP and/or “Check-in” for a FREE warm YOUNG BANANA + TAPIOCA in CARAMEL COCO MILK dessert too. I mean sheesh.. it’s no the 80 degrees we had on Monday (this weather is so WEIRD!)
(beep beep beep) CHICKEN NEWS
don’t forget that this week’s the LAST week for the SK KARA-GE (more popularly known as the “Japanese Popcorn Chicken!”)
and we are most DEFINITELY moving forward w/ FRIED CHICKEN NIGHT(S) for this Thurs+Friday Din-Dins! Seems to be a popular idea, so know this now… quantity is limited. I might change it to reservations to help make sure no one angrily picks up a chicken bone off someone elses table and throws it at me because we ran out for the night. Don’t worry, I’ll let all 4-5 of you readers know! LOL
(beep beep beep) NOODLE AND RICE NEWS
(which is sometimes more important than the regular “Chicken News)
don’t forget it’s the LAST week for the Kimchi Fried Rice too
and it’s HIGHLY LIKELY it’ll be the last week for the Korean Glass Noodles (aka “Japchae”) too
Alrighty, now you’ve been warned (even though most of you’z probably don’t ever read this far down… I know, I’m TRICKY!!! LOL)
Otherwise, I think that’s it for today… enjoy (and let us warm your asses with our food if you need help!)
So we started in February (the 16th to be exact ;D), and it’s August now. Who woulda thunk it, huh?!?!
Ok, that’s enough reminiscing for today. Let’s get onto business, shall we?
(for those of you at pesky offices with pesky firewalls blocking “time-wasting” file-sharing sites, you can just click the menu image above to get around all that mumbo-jambalaya instead o’ clicking the link on the left and getting… rejected! <- how’s that for a relevant and yet rambling run-on sentence for ya?! ^_^)
HI-HI
See that R&D picture above (I know, NOT very sexy.. but when you eat it, you may think differently LOL):
SK KARA-GE
AKA Chicken Karaage and Japanese “Sesame Fried Chicken!” Either way, they’re juicy morsels of deliciousness that belong in your mouth today (we insist!)
Aside from that, while one of the fan faves (or most hated by garlic-wussies) the Japanese Garlic Noodles are gone, today also marks the return of the OTHER fan fave side:
KOREAN GLASS NOODLES
AKA “japchae” or “glass noodles of awesomeness.” So for those of you that didn’t like the garlic noodles (WHYYYYYYY?), I dedicate this video to you ‘cause we know how much some of you LOVE these noodles instead (and if you’re a native Spanish speaker this video comes chock full o’ Spanish translation.. o’ BOY!). And if you need me to spoon feed ya a lil more, imagine that “SOMEBODY” is Mr/Mrs. Korean Glass Noodle ^_^:
BYE-BYE
Sorry veggie fans, it’s about time Mr (or Mrs.) Game Changer #2 has gotta go:
CRISPY KIMCHI RICE CAKES
You got one more (lunch) week for the original Kimchi + Parmesan Cheese gangsta. Til then, enjoy it with your homies and/or homegirl’s. They’ll thank you later!
