Starry Kitchen
HAPPY MLK DAY (and if you’re free and hungry, we’re open for lunch today too! ^_^)
So this “rotation” jazz continues, and for those of you that have come along for the ride (or have just eaten at SK… which is a whole lot easier :D) I’m sure you guys have figured out what goes away WILL eventually come back. And today is no exception chockos.
If you haven’t already scrolled all the way down to figure out what this is (or it’s just on your screen because it’s large enough to see it all DOH!), my FAVORITE quote from a fan for this dish is, “It speaks to my soul.” Ok, maybe that doesn’t mean much to you, but that means a lot to me when I personally just think it tastes “NICE!!!” Well, without further ado (because there really isn’t ANY element of surprise on this blog anyway LOL):
“NOM NOM” PORK

(aka Vietnamese Nem Nuong for the Asian food afficianados out there! ^_^)
And we do it “OC style” (as I like to call it) and serve THIS in the sammie and/or wrap w/ a crispy fried egg roll wrapper:

OH yeah, the Kitchen Ninja (who’s on that there Twitter now by the way at @StarryKN) has changed up the recipe for the “NOM NOM” PORK and is so happy with the way the flavors have come out that she feels there is no need any more for what we used to call the Yum Yum SK Sauce. So for those that will wonder, have read this far, are completely bored and have experienced this before… there you have it.
And oh yeah, the dish rotating OUT (because “it” happens) is a NEW fan fave:
MALAYSIAN COCONUT PINEAPPLE CHICKEN

And it’s super tastily complimentary rice friend:
Shallot Fried Rice
I know, it’s a sucky thing to do.. so come get some (preferably those two together ‘cause they taste EXTRA NICE together!)
And that’s it folks. If you haven’t already, I suggest you watch the WINGS ETC singing chicken puppet video in my last post. It’s a nice song to sing-along to and it’s kinda funny (if you want more crass double entendre BALLS jokes that is :D LOL)
Much love,

Before we start, here’s the equation for the week: KOREAN PORK BELLY+Pineapple Fried Rice=*ka-BOOM* in yo’ mouth!
(seriously, I’ve had it ALL wrong.. until now!)
but…
HELLOOOO,
And WHOA! Can you believe we started the experiment middle o’ May last year, and then operated legitimately in February?!?! Madness I say… MADNESS!!!
(I mean, it still does blow us away… which is COOOOOOL!)
Alright, enough of that ‘cause we gots some important BIDNESS to get into.
Let’s start w/ the F’ING bad news first:
BYE-BYE:
The recently uncovered & discovered flava-combo-supa-dupa-power (Why Jebus…WHYYYYY)
SPICY KOREAN BLACK PORK BELLY
&
Pineapple Fried Rice

YEAH, these two combined… Holy MACKEREL Batman is that shiz’nit GOOOOOD! So if you haven’t had it, or were a fool to follow my previous suggestions of the Banh Mi being the best… now’s the time to make up for lost time ‘cause man o’ man, I almost “busted a NUT” when I ate it like this. “FOR REAL!” ^_^
HI-HI:
We got some notable dishes coming in today like the
SAVORY SAKE TOFU (aka “not yo’ mamma’s tofu!” ^_^)
And a LIL bit of a fave for patrons and fans, and just because the KN felt like bringing it back sooner rather than later…
Japanese Garlic Noodles

(And the village rejoiced w/ breath mints in hand! YAY!)
Note: just a warning that this next paragraph is ALMOST link-CRAZY!
And on a nostalgic and slightly off-beaten musical note, check my buddy Randy George and his MAD Theremin skills. This guy lived 3 houses down from me back in the hood of… CARROLLTON (Texas!) If you don’t know what it is (I didn’t either ya’ll) and/or didn’t check out the previous video (posted OVER year ago so of course you saw it! ;D), click the word ‘Theremin’ above for the Wikipedia link and/or… just watch this video for the nostalgic part (ZELDA!!!) of this paragraph
And yeah, I still go on wild-tangents for nearly-useless information… but hey, that ALSO makes Pan-Asian Comfort food taste better!:

Happy Post-LA STREET FOOD FEST ya’ll!
And before we get into the few (of a LOT) of pictorial tomfoolery from the event, let’s just jump into the going-ons of this week:
“BYE-BYE”
Two INCREDIBLY beloved dishes are leaving us this week (to return again… ummm.. whenever!):
SPICY “CRACK” CRAB CAKES
Japanese Garlic Noodles
For those that are new (all 6 of you that we met at the Rose Bowl this weekend that weren’t completely put off by our constant “balls” jokes LOL), we rotate the menu every WEEK! Why? Because we can! ^_^ (and that’s just our concept… but that’s a more boring and less bold answer than the former :D)
“HI-HI”
And we’re changing this one up by adding minced kimchi + gochujang (Korean sweet chili paste) on topsies:
BULGOGI BURGER

SPECIAL SURPRISE
We got some left-over stash from the fest, and we’ll be serving up THESE starting today (and until we run out):

(FYI- “THESE” = CRISPY TOFU BALLS!)
And think that’s about it for that… I THINK!
LA STREET FOOD… FEEEEEEEEEEEST!
But who cares, let’s just move on to the awesome ridiculousness that was the LA STREET FOOD FEST for us. Rather than write more boring words and lingo (outside of the fact that they created a WHOLE new category just for us: BEST ORIGINAL SHOWMANSHIP), here are just a FEW of the pictures. There are SO many pictures I’m finding that I would recommend the best place to find ‘em is to follow our Twitter account (@starrykitchen) or the Facebook Fan Page. (end of words… now ^_^)

(if you can’t make him out, that’s Mayor Antonio Villaigrosa POST-Crispy Tofu Ball enjoyment!)

(boba and balls go together!)

(I still can’t figure out how this guy got on my shoulders… and that’s not even a joke either!!! LOL ^_^)
A while back a very honest and crazy fan once told me I wasn’t very good lookin, so I ask you now: “Doesn’t this make me look adorable???” ;)
(mwahahahahaha)

HAAAAAAPPY MONDAY (I know, lots of work to catch up on… and so do we so let’s get into it).
First, the BAD (i.e. Rotation) news.
Last week for the SWEET+SPICY GINGER FRIED TOFU. If you haven’t had it, it’s definitely become one of our more favorite tofu/veggie dishes in a while. ^_^

Now we’re done with that mumbo-jumbo, back to the GOOD news:

the SK KARA-GE (aka “Japanese Popcorn Fried Chicken”) is BAAAAACK!

AAAAND the Kimchi Fried Rice is back too (to compliment the currently-on-the-menu BULGOGI BURGER!)

And lastly, we still be doin this Four Square (or Yelp and/or Facebook Place)-FOOLERY still too (i.e. FREE CRISPY TOFU BALLS suckas!):

And with all that “business” out of the way, back to a lil post-Thanksgiving fun. (oh BOY!) You guys know about that phenomenon known as the TURDUCKEN, well take a gander at this monstrosity (of complete & utter flavor enlightenment deliciousness… if you ask me that is!!). Allow me to present to you the: TURBACON EPIC!

Much love (and welcome back),

Here, HERE.. the rotation is BACK ON… SUCKAS!!!
(we’re happy about that, right?? kinda?? maybe?? PLEASE?!?! ^_^)
So if you haven’t guessed, dineLA RESTAURANT WEEK(S) has come to an end. Was it good for us? HELL YEAH it was, and we couldn’t believe it either. So expect us to have another “CRAZY” prix fixe menu come February when it starts up again. WOO HOO
And actually, having some of our coveted “Din-Din’s” items and others at lunch has still got us thinking… maybe… just MAYBE we’ll offer them some mo’ (but then we’ll introduce DIFFERENT Din-Dins ONLY items too, ya dig? ^_^)
But enough of that, back to the rotation ya’ll.
BACK TO BIDNESS CHOCKOS!
BYE-BYE = kiss this juicy sucka goodbye (after this week!):

MALAYSIAN CHICKEN CURRY (of course)
Now it’s kinda chilly and mucky (FYI- that’s a word you can ACTUALLY find in the dictionary too. That and “fanta-bulous”… okay, I lied about the latter but that would be SWEET if you could), and if you haven’t had it yet get this especially w/ the sammie and Curry Au Jus (as conveniently pictured above)… it’s quite nice to warm you up and a crummy Monday like today. M’kay?
As with all rotations, when there’s a BYE-BYE there’s always a… HI-HI:

LEMONGRASS TOFU (aka the original anti-pork gangster as demonstrated in this propaganda poster of “yesteryear” ^_^)

Unlike it’s subtly savory cousin (the SAVORY SAKE TOFU), this one’s bursting with flavor (ka-BOOOM in yo’ MOUF!). Maybe you don’t like flavor, and maybe I still don’t F’ around… who knows!?!?! Find out for yo’self! ^_^

SK ON A TACO TRUCK… FINALLY?!?!?!?!
So for those 2 (even though I’m pretty sure it’s more like a hefty 5 or 6) of ya that have followed the SK “lore”: at one point in time we actually WERE looking at getting a truck ourselves and peddling our “seemingly” delicious wares (here’s your PROOF.. ummm HERE).
Well NOW’S the time for us to see how it REALLY is ‘cause we’re “HIJACKING” the Mandoline Grill Vietnamese Food Truck (thanks…friends!), taking some of their wares with us (specifically their CRACK-LICIOUS Vietnamese Nachos… HOT DAMN!!) and double-popping up that bad boy at Domaine LA for their Vinos Unico Wine Tasting (secure your wine spot for only $15… you WINO you… HERE!). Let’s jump up for joy… WOO HOO

If you just wanna read a simple invite and tell us you’re coming (pretty please!), click HERE ya’ll! :)
Alrighty, I think that’s it (and already enough pics of me) for today. Go get yerself some grub (hopefully at SK suckas!)

And now… WE’RE BACK!

With all that (incredibly & exhaustingly FUN… seriously, it was!) Test Kitchen tomfoolery outta the way, back to worksies for us.
(sorry about closing yesterday, we slept a total of 8 hours in about 3 days BEFORE Test Kitchen!! You can’t blame us, right?!?!)
For those of you that went to Test Kitchen, “THANKS” for coming out. We KNOW many of you are like, “Well why don’t you serve this stuff at Starry Kitchen!” and to that we say, “Hmmmm… REALLY?? LOL OKAY.. we’ll think about it!” ^_^
And since we’re back in the “grind,” we’re also back to the rotation.
Hi-Hi:
It’s baaaaaack ^_^
CHINESE HOISIN HAMBURGER

On a side note, we might have kinda F’ED up today in doing (yes, TEST KITCHEN) and may have VERY limited quantity on this dish. And because of that, we’ve have a secret stash of…
NEBRASKA ANGUS JAPANESE MEATBALL CURRY (TODAY ONLY!!!)
And to re-iterate… that’s TODAY ONLY! (just in case you skipped that end note)
BYE-BYE:
The “meatiest” and vegan non-fruity tasting fruit around
BRAISED COCONUT JACKFRUIT
And that’s it… and if you haven’t watched my “embarrassing” rendition of the Bed Intruder song (of which some people were like, “What was that horrible song you were singing?” while others were like “HIDE YOUR WIVES… HIDE YOUR KIDS! LOL”) it’s in the previous post/below! And for some reason, I can’t get myself to watch all of it. I don’t mind making an ass outta myself (if you haven’t noticed), but man watching myself on video makes me cringe!! (while laughing! ^_^)
