Starry Kitchen

I opened a restaurant in my living room... Pop-up restaurants are the latest foodie trend, but would you open your doors? | Mail Online

Some nice and relevant weekend reading (assuming you’re at your computer, walking around on your iPhone or not enjoying the incredible SoCal weather today)… Received this from a fan (Kathleen) who’s somewhat of a “Mad Scientist” if you will.  It’s AMAZING how many MORE of these Supper Club/Underground/Pop-Up Restaurants we’re reading about.

Honestly, when we came up with it there wasn’t much relevance other than the fact that I used to go to things like this when I was a kid in Dallas.  This was VERY common in the Vietnamese community to have household restaurants, and look how it comes full circle. WEIRD!!

But anyway… read it, enjoy it and have a safe fun weekend… or a debaucherous good time that you’ll barely remember from the high intake of alcohol and gourmet taco truck consumption that is awaiting you on this fair and beautiful evening. ^^

NOTE: SK does not encourage or endorse high alcohol consumption as much as we would like to participate in the inebriated debauchery with you (as long as there’s karaoke involved at some point in the evening)… ^_^

Restaurants turn table on conventional dining

Since we’ve started our experiment way back in May (wow, has it been that long???), we’ve heard about many similar stories, an NPR report and restaurant recommendations that are or were similar to what we are/were.  Here’s just ONE article (of many) of this movement that we seem to be a part of right now.

Movement, revolution or not… it’s been a lot of fun.  If you read the article, you’ll read about $175 prix fixe menus and stuff.  We’re obviously not THAT at all, but we think we’ve had fun with the concept we’ve built out of our quaint NoHo apartment.

Take a look at the article, and if you have time read the comments too.  They’re HILARIOUS!

And if you still have time (hey, it’s the holiday still, right?), take a look at the SK R&D pics soon too.  OMG, the Kitchen Ninja outdid herself by going all Indo & Malay on those dishes last night.  F’ they were AWESOME! ^_^

UPDATE: Btw, if you think that question below is just pompous and all you care about is good food… that’s cool too! LOL
Does this sound familiar to anyone??? ^_^

TO GET TO THE DINNER, THE GUESTS MAKE their way down a dark alley, past a series of run-down houses.

We gotta thank one of our VERY loyal fans, Shruti, for sharing this with us.  It seems more and MORE that our story is just one of many across the nation (especially with the Health Dept :p)
So what do you guys think? The latter part of the article is ENTIRELY possible.  God help us all if we do “sell out” and become successful, but it does beg the question: Can SK keep our “Soul”, our sense of “Community” and our “Independent” sensibility as we grow to try to make this into not only a real living… but a culture?
