Holy CRAP! This couple right here is in LA for 1 night.. 1 NIGHT on a west coast tour for their 10 year wedding anniversary from Charlotte, NC! And they found us on Yelp and just KNEW (for some crazy reason) they had to eat here at SK.
"There’s a something going down in NoHo. On Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons, drop by this shiny new apartment complex (there’s a bunch poppin’ up in the Art District), buzz the door code, and like a speakeasy of yore, simply say, “I’m here for Starry Kitchen.” Take the elevator to the second floor and cruise down the courtyard. You’ll know when to stop. There you will find what few know about and even fewer have experienced…"
UPDATE: Man, I just realized this blog post has no pics and looks kind of flat. I’ve included an irrelevant pic in the middle of the post AND gave it bullet points to give it a better visual flow. WOW, now that’s real internet journalism :p
Another great blog post about us on that there internets! HOORAY!!!
Curt, one half of the newly wed Rollison clan (welcome to ETERNITY guys!), came with his lovely wife Jessica (who wrote a hilariously great review about us, which makes me think I’m going to do a post breaking down the fun Yelp! reviews soon… but my favorite part of her review is easily one word- “mouthgasm”) and I “guess” was impressed with their experience here at Chateau SK. ^_^
Thankfully they were SO impressed that after they got home (with an extra burrito in hand that Jessica by now has already eaten for breakfast!), BOTH did what any self-proclaimed newbie foodie couple should do:
get on a computer
clear out your junk mail except that one email from an African emissary that could be legitimate about holding your $12M in their account (I’m still waiting for my wire transfer as we speak!)
contemplate sneaking a bite of SK burrito while the other’s not looking
jump on Facebook, laugh at hilarious pictures of friends doing stupid druken circus tricks
ignore the many friend requests from Chuck Norris
watch the funny YouTube clip again and…
write a blog post and/or Yelp review about STARRY KITCHEN.
Literally, they both came at us at the same time! We were deluged with love from both husband and wife. If we were in a mad game of Red Rover and we were to choose a side to go with… it would be a hard “life of death”-like decision that could be a burden on our souls… except one was quite the word-smith and used the ingenious term “mouthgasm” which obviously makes choosing Jessica easier. ^_^
Aside from that random and uninteresting psychobabble…. THANKS guys! We <3 you all, and as long as you’re enjoying it we’re having fun too… which (in a cheesy sounding way) is really what’s it’s all about for us.
Hope to see you and everyone out Sunday (12-3p). It’s going to be gooOoOooooOOOoOod! ;)
First, here are some pics from our LEMONGRASS CHICKEN + SPICY TOFU service from Wed night. Good stuff.
Secondly, service is ON this Sunday from 12-3p, BUT with a catch: it’s going to be our last service for a couple of weeks. In short, the realities of family beckons- Thi’s father in Dallas is going through major heart surgery next week and we’ll be flying back to the city of our roots to be with our family. We expect to be back, and will continue to blog and keep everyone updated via email, Twitter and Facebook.
Trust when we say it’s a hard for us (emotionally) to stop for a little while because frankly… we are LOVING doing this, we LOVE your reactions, we are very SERIOUS about growing this (did you see one of the previous posts… we ACTUALLY did go look at the taco trucks today!) and truthfully we’re SCARED of losing momentum. We’re not afraid to admit that either.
One of the things that we set out to do was be consistent. After hearing a couple of not-so-nice stories of businesses flaking, not communicating or similar we were committed to continually serve. That and we knew it was an uphill battle for people to take seriously a couple that serves tacos outta the back of their apartment… well, we’ve been doing it for about 3 months now. What do you think? ^_^ Well, I guess the LA Weekly Blog - Squid Ink thinks it’s interesting. LOL
SO, if you really want you some STARRY KITCHEN, come git it this weekend ‘cause it’s the last you’ll have… until we comeback! What are we serving…hmmm…what ARE we serving?
GROUND GARLIC CHICKEN (aka “nem nuong” made w/ chicken) - click the link for pics from the last time this was served (ummm, last week I think ^^)
+
Veggie: SWEET POTATO KIMCHI PANCAKE
There you have it. Want to know more… click the link. I’ll upload a great pic of the SWEET POTATO KIMCHI PANCAKE tomorrow. It’s REALLY a good stand alone dish, and will be a great taco too.
So, please come out like gangbusters ‘cause we’ll be (voluntarily) shut down in NoHo for the next couple of weeks. And please continue to help us spread the word. I just realized today that we have SEVEN Yelp Reviews now. I’m not even going to link it because we have a nice lil Yelp button on the left banner now. Take a look!
And for the video choice of the day that’s appropriate for our last service (it’s not entirely appropriate since we ARE we coming back) …. let me present to you one of the guiltiest pleasures from the 80’s… “THE FINAL COUNTDOWN” by Europe (it’s so good!):
I don’t go anywhere w/o my YELPstick (except for the times I lose it in the cracks under my car seat). And if you’re keeping track, we have a YELP: “People Love Us” T-shirt, tin lunchbox (w/ branded thermos) and yes… branded lipbalm! Its Yelp-tastic :p
WHOA… posts have come to an absolute HALT with the exception of all the food we’re eating… well, just in case you didn’t know, read below:
Service is back on tonight (6-9p). No more flaking and going off to Texas or a road trip to Nor Cal… oh NO! We’re definitely back, and ramping up for our next step.
Til then, we’re still serving TONIGHT and we’re putting more TLC into it too. We’ve got a homemade tomatillo sauce that we tried on Sunday that’s AWESOME a VERY refreshing compliment to the food.
AND for all you Vietnamese / Banh Mi lovers out there, we’ve got a homemade french creme spread to into your lucious and light bread for every bite! ^_^
Here’s the menu for today:
Meat: Vietnamese succulent & juicy baked ground pork marinated and spiced in a way that’s ohhhh soooo delish served w/ a crunchy surprise of a fried egg roll wrapper inside
Kosher/Veggie: Sesame Crusted Tofu served w/ a special sweet soy sauce
We hope to see you tonight. The KITCHEN NINJA’s put a lot of her heart and soul into tonight’s service (because she ♥ ‘s all of you).
Did we mention we now have ELEVEN 5-star reviews on Yelp?!?!? WOO HOO. Click the badge on the left so it can whisk you away to the far off land with unicorns, leprechauns and… positive reviews for us. :)
